About the 1948 Cadillac 62 Club Coupe
The 1948 Cadillac Club Coupe was an example Cadillac's first post-war line up built on the Series 62 platform. It combined modernized styling, abundant but elegant use of chrome, and state-of-the-art mechanical engineering including a V8 engine and automatic transmission. The Club Coupe's rakish profile gave the car a sporting yet elegant appearance while still providing generous interior space for rear passengers.
The original specification included a 331ci OHV V8 producing 160hp, a 3 speed 'Hydramatic' automatic gearbox, front independent suspension with coil springs, a live rear axle, hydraulic drum brakes and a recirculating ball steering system. It was 211" long, 77" wide, 60" tall and weighed approximately 4,200lbs.
A Cadillac Club Coupe would have cost between $3,000 and $3,200 when new, compared to $1,300-$1,400 for a typical Chevrolet sedan.
About This Cadillac Restomod
The current owner saw this car in Drew's Garage in Tempe Arizona when their 1932 Studabaker Restomod was being cosmetically freshened by that company in 2012. The owner had commissioned the build, and then passed away. The car was complete, though not in its exact specification.
The Cadillac was transported to Calgary Canada and enjoyed some limited use, but the current owner was unhappy with the air suspension which didn't function to expectations. The car was returned to Drew's Garage in 2016 and was refitted with conventional suspension with QA1 coils and springs. Also the engine was upgraded to a GM LSA - a slightly detuned Corvette Z06 engine as fitted to the Cadillac CTS-V Blackwing. Various other jobs were completed with invoices totalling more than $USD 100,000.
The car was returned to Calgary 2018, along with the 1932 Studabaker. The Cadillac was recently serviced with an oil service, brake flush and attention to the fuel system. It also received a new starter motor.
With around 580hp from its fuel injected LSA engine, this Cadillac offers effortless performance and modern drivability. The custom 3" exhaust has a deep bellow with just enough of a classic V8 soundtrack to announce its arrival, but not lound enough to be obnoxious. It features push button start, modern infotainment system and electric windows. The QA1 suspension is compliant and not harsh. It has been set to a practical ride height. The Vintage Air system keeps the cabin cool and the electric seats from a 2002 Cadillac DTS are very comfortable. Plush carpet and a hand-stitched alcantara head liner complete the luxury interior. This is a great cruiser, and has a 'wow' factor that is simply off the charts!
This car will be offerd on Bring A Trailer in late August 2025, and a link will be posted.
