1956 MGA 1500 - Bring-A-Trailer -SOLD
VIN# : 16006
Engine #: BP1 5GB 6220
History: This MGA was sold new in Montreal to Otto Schmidt. He used it to travel to a family retreat in Sunny Acres, in Northern Quebec. His wife convinced him to sell the car because of a 'heavy foot'. In 1965 it was sold to Chester P*****i, who was related by marriage to Otto. It remains in the P******i family to this day.
Chester dated his girlfriend, Connie, in the car and they married in 1969, and moved to Calgary. The MGA was their only car for their first 5 years of marriage. Despite the MGA not being an ideal winter car for the Canadian prairies, and a wheel falling off occasionally, the MGA became a loved part of the family.
The MGA received a well deserved and well documented restoration in 2005/2006 as a collaborative effort between Chester and his son Chad, and local Calgary specialists who rebuilt the engine and did the body and paint work. The father and son team disassembled the car to the bare shell, carefully documenting it with diagrams and photos, and had each piece media blasted and coated. They reassembled the car after the paint and body work was completed by British Auto Specialists, who also rebuilt the engine. The car has seen only minimal mileage since.
The MGA came out of storage in 2005 and was used for the daughters wedding at the Laugheed House in Calgary-that was the last time it was driven. It was given a light recommissioning with a polish, oil change and a new brake/clutch master cylinder at Lugnutz in Dec 2023. It remains in as-restored condition.
It is now for sale by the family, who are looking for the next custodian of this 'modern' British sports car, that will surely continue to provide fond memories to whoever owns it.
