1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe - SOLD

Auction on Bring A Trailer

This 1963 Chevrolet Corvette split-window coupe is said to have been purchased by its current owner in 1971 and was refurbished in 2000 and 2001 with work that included repainting the body, reupholstering the interior, and rebuilding the 327ci V8. The car features a two-speed automatic transmission, 15″ turbine-style wheels with three-eared knock-off spinners, power steering, power-assisted brakes, and concealed headlights. This C2 split-window coupe is now offered by the seller on behalf of its owner in Canada with an owner’s manual, refurbishment records, spare parts, and Alberta registration in the seller’s name.
The fiberglass body was refinished in silver blue in 2000, and seller tells us that evidence of past repair was discovered on the rear quarter panel during the process, which is believed to have resulted from some body damage that occurred prior to the owner’s purchase in 1971. The bodywork was then redone as part of the refurbishment. The chrome and rubber components were also replaced at this time. Features include flip-up headlamps, fender vents, quad tail lamps, chrome bumperettes, and dual exhaust tips that exit through the rear valance. The seller notes some paint chips, bubbles, and stress cracks.
The 15″ turbine-style wheels wear three-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with 215/70 Michelin Symmetry tires that are said to be 20 years old. The C2 was the first Corvette to offer fully independent suspension, with upper and lower control arms at the front and a three-link setup with a transverse leaf spring at the rear. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by four-wheel power-assisted drums.
The two bucket seats upholstered in dark blue vinyl in 2000, and the carpets were replaced at that time. Amenities include a heater, an analog clock, and lap belts. The AM/FM radio does not work.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline as well as gauges for amperage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 15,414 miles, approximately 15,000 miles of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The turn signal actuator was repaired in 2024.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission that was rebuilt in 2024. Additional work at this time included resealing the engine oil pan and installing a helicoil in the shifter actuator.
Decoding the trim tag reveals:
- Style 837 – 1963 Corvette coupe
- Body 5658 – St. Louis body number
- Trim 490J – Dark blue vinyl upholstery
- Paint 912 – Silver Blue
