About the Alfa Romeo 105/115 GTV 1750
The Alfa Romeo GT, GT Junior and GT Veloce were sporty coupes deigned by Giorgetto Giugiaro during his time at Bertone and were produced from 1963 to 1977. They were based on the shortened platform of the Gulia sedan, and featured different displacement versions (from 1,290 to 1,962cc) of the famous Alfa Romeo Twin Cam 4 cylinder engine. Common to all models was also a 5 speed gearbox and 4 wheel disk brakes. Italian and world market cars were fitted with twin sidedraft Weber Carburettors, though US versions used the mechanical fuel injection system by SPICA. In addition to the coupes there were a limited run of Convertibles (GTC) with a run of 1,000 units, and a very small number of competition GTA versions with twin plug heads and aluminium bodies.
Alfa produced GT Juniors with the smaller displacement engines and the GT Veloce (fast) versions with the 1779cc and 1,962cc engines. Alfa made the 1750 GT Veloce version from 1967 t0 1972.
The 1750 GTV dropped the 'stepped nose' of the earlier cars and gained larger wheel and tires, as well as redesigned interior with deeply hooded instruments and seats with an integrated headrest and 'flying buttress' for the side bolsters.
Early 1,750 GTVs had bumpers which incorporated signal lights.
The 'Series 2' GTV came out in 1970 and featured some mechanical changes including a dual circuit braking system. The bumpers were slimmer with new overriders and the indicator lights were moved up to the front panel
There were approximatley 250,000 Alfa Romeo GT variants produced, with about 32,000 of them being the 1750 GTV. The smaller displacement 'Junior' cars sold in greater numbers because of tax structure favoured smaller displacement engines in Europe.
The 1,779cc engine produced 118hp @ 5,500rpm and the car weighed just under 2,300lbs dry. Top speed was 190km/hr and 0-60mph could be accomplished in about 15 seconds. Excellent performance for the day.
About this car.
This 1969 GTV is an example of the 'Series 1' and was produced in the 70's hue Giallo Ochra, or Yellow Ochra. Though it is an earlier car this GTV has been retrofitted with the Dual Master Cylinder brakes of the Series 2 car. Also, the SPICA mechanical fuel injection system has been removed and replaced with twin downdraft 40 DCOE151 Weber carburators.
This GTV was refurbished in California from 2011 to 2018 in which the car received an engine rebuild, transmission re-seal, rand drivetrain refresh. It was repainted in Giallo Yellow, given a new interior, and 14" GTA-style wheels were installed. Alfa Performance Connection of Santa Ana, California invoiced $22,324 of work in Dec, 2018.
The vehicle was then place on Bring-A-Trailer where it sold for $56,000 on Jan 3, 2019. The car was purchaed by a dealer, and received some additional attention to the fuel system and a light detailing. It was listed again on Bring-A-Trailer and sold for $53,500 to a Calgary resident.
Since the vehicle has been in Calgary it has received approximately $5,700 worth or work to repair some electrical accessories, rear shocks, the centre bearing on the steering column, fuel pressure regulator, battery and an oil service. Receipts, going back to 2011, total approximately $45,000 and accompany the vehicle.
This GTV drives extremely well with good brakes, strong synchos from the gearbox, and the famous Alfa twin-cam engine feels extremely healthy and starts up and idles beautifully.
