History
This 1970 Pagoda is a one-family owned vehicle. It was sold new in Canada and spent most of its life in Kingston Ontario with its purchaser, a renowned Orthopedic Surgeon. According to his daughter, the car was used summers to drive back and forth to the family cottage in Cranberry Lake.
The vehicle was presumed to have been maintained by the Mercedes-Benz dealer in Kingston, but no service records exist for the car when it was in Ontario.
There is a body shop estimate from Edwards Ford Sales (Kingston) from July 6, 1988 for paintwork to the front fenders, doors and hood totalling $2,287. There is an undated estimate from Frontenac Auto Body Service in the amount of $3,718 to repaint the car including repairing the floor pans including sandblasting but noting that welding was an additional cost. There is a list of bodyshops in the Kingston area attached to one of the invoices, so it appears that the owner got several estimates for the same work. We can assume body work was performed, the floor pans patched, and the car repainted in 1988.
The owner passed in 2010, and ownership of the vehicle was transferred to his daughter, also a physician, residing in Mount Royal, Calgary.
It was shipped to Calgary on Sept 15, 2011. Hyatt Mercedes-Benz performed an Out Of Province Inspection Oct 31, 2021 with 66,171miles. Hyatt repaired the windshield wipers, hood release and installed new tie rod ends. The Alberta Out Of Province Inspection was completed June 1, 2012 with 66,180 miles.
The vehicle was appraised by All Classic Auto Appraisals for $CAD30,000 on July 10, 2012, still with 66,180 miles. A note that the convertible top was missing, the engine compartment dirty and the drivers seat and weatherstripping was in 'fair' condition.
The vehicle went back to Hyatt Mercedes Benz July 25, 2014 @ 66,189km for a 'Service B', and to address a fuel smell. The hood release cable was also replaced.
In approximately 2016 the vehicle received an interior refresh with new Cognac seat leather covers, new carpets, new soft top and headliner. At some point the steering wheel was changed out from the padded black stock wheel to a wood 'Nardi' wheel.
The only other service records that come with the car is a Canadian Tire invoice for a new battery in October 2024. The car was reportedly maintained by a well known Calgary mechanic who maintains some noteworthy classic car collections in the Calgary area.
The vehicle now shows 66,197 miles on its odometer. It comes with partial records, Books, tool roll, spare tire cover and an original Michelin 'X' spare tire.
The vehicle has been driven very little in the last 15 years, and is in the process of getting fully recommissioned and tidied up for re-sale. We will price the car after the recommissioning has been completed.
