ABOUT THIS MUSTANG
This Ford Mustang was bought new at Macklin Ford on Macleod Trail in Calgary. The original lady owner drove the car in Calgary and later moved to Edmonton Alberta. It was driven regularly, but sparingly until the mid 1980's when it was garaged. A friend of hers saw it in the garage and offered to buy it if she decided to sell. Some years later, in 1992, after a chance phone call, the current owner succeeded in purchasing the car which at the time had about 90,000 miles. It was completely original apart from some faux-wire hubcaps. The current owner has enjoyed this Mustang with his family, covering 35,000 miles of birthdays, graduations, and regular weekend outings. It was never winter driven. It has been serviced regularly during this time.
In 2010 the car was sent to Stettler, AB to Passion Custom Auto, to have some minor rust in the fender wells addressed. This turned into a full body off restoration that cost $65,000 and took until Feb 2016 when it was finally ready. Surprisingly little was done to the car apart from repairing some the rust which was confined to the rear fender areas. The car retains its original floor pans and sills and all of its original body panels. The interior was largly taken out, cleaned and then replaced. The car did receive new black vinyl seat covers which replaced the original Avacado seats which were showing some wear. The dashboard, center console, headliner and carpets are original.
During the restoration the body was removed from the chassis which was disassmbled and sand blasted. All glass and chrome was removed from the body, as was the interior. The shell was repainted in its original colour of Ivy Glow Green (4C) and was done to an extremely good standard. There is no orange peel or prep marks evident, and no rust appearing after
Mechanically the car received a new radiator, a major service, and not much else. The engine appears to be freshened, but any records of what was done to it are lost to time. It starts and runs extremely well, with no abnormal noises from the valvetrain, bottom end or ancillary components. There is a leak from the carburettor, which appears original. The transmission shifts well, and doesn't slip. All electrical components appear to work correctly. The car wears reproduction bias ply tires, date coded to 2006, but showing no dry cracking. Overall it runs and drives extremely well, with no deferred maintenance apart from the carburettor.
