3.6L-Powered 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe M491
Bid for the chance to own a 3.6L-Powered 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe M491 at auction with Bring a Trailer, the home of the best vintage and classic cars online. Lot #216,573.

This 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera coupe has been modified with a 3.6L flat-six, 16″ BBS RS wheels, Elephant Racing coilovers, adjustable sway bars, a WEVO shifter, and a 930S-style steering wheel. The car came specified in Guards Red over Champagne and black with the US-spec M491 “Turbo Look” package, a limited-slip differential, and an electric sunroof. It spent time in the US before being brought to Canada in 2015, when it was acquired by the current owner. This Carrera coupe shows 53k miles and is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner in Alberta with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a window sticker, the owner’s manual, the removed 3.2L engine, spare parts, and Alberta registration.

The M491 option was first introduced in 1984 and features front and rear spoilers from the contemporary 911 Turbo as well as wider front and rear fenders. This example is finished in Guards Red with Martini-style graphics and features a power-operated sunroof, H4 headlights, and heated power-adjustable side mirrors. The seller states that the right rear quarter panel, decklid, and hood have been refinished and paint blending is apparent in the right door and front fender. Clear paint protection film has been added to the front and rear fenders, and paint meter readings are viewable in the video gallery.

The 16″ BBS RS wheels feature gold centers and are mounted with Yokohama A008P tires measuring 205/55 up front and 245/45 out back. The M491 package included Turbo-specification brakes, anti-roll bars, trailing arms, and torsion bars. Elephant Racing VonShocks coilovers have been installed along with Smart Racing Products adjustable sway bar brackets, a Rennline front strut tower brace, and Brembo brake calipers.

The cabin features power-adjustable front seats upholstered in Champagne leather, while black carpets line the floors. Amenities power windows, a WEVO shifter, a Blaupunkt cassette stereo, Infinity speakers, and cruise control. The air conditioning components have been removed and are included in the sale.

The leather-wrapped 930S-style steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a central tachometer with a 6,300-rpm redline as well as a 170-mph speedometer, a Quarz clock, and gauges for oil level, oil pressure, oil temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 53k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership.

The 3.6-liter flat-six was sourced from a 993, features a VarioRam intake, and installed around 2010. An oil change was performed in 2021.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle and an optional limited-slip differential. The seller notes a whine from the gearbox.

The removed 3.2L flat-six accompanies the vehicle, and a photo of engine stamping *64F04724* is shown in the gallery, with a corresponding number listed on the Porsche CoA.
