This 2002 Toyota Tacoma is an example of a Gen 1 Tacoma that replaced what was called the Toyota Pick Up in North America and Hilux in other markets. The Tacoma was introduce in 1995 and was designed with more ride comfort and roadability in mind, recognizing that North Americans used the vehicle more for personal transportation rather than commercial use. Various cabin/bed combinations were offered with both 2WD and 4WD and a choice of 4 cyl and 6 cyl engines as well as 5 speed manual and 4 speed automatic gearbox options.

The Tacoma sold very well globally with production numbers in the millions. The truck also has the distinction of consistently having the highest, or among the highest resale value of any vehicle sold in North America according to Kelly Blue Book.

This example enjoyed an early life in Colorado before being listed on Bring a Trailer in 2021 where it sold for $USD 27,000 with 18,000 miles. A year later, gaining 1,000 miles, it sold for $28,500 and was imported into Canada. The current owner deleted the roof rack, and installed a lift kit, Method Race wheels and BF Goodrich All Terrain tires, rock sliders which were powder coated black, a bed extender, Thule rack, LED headlight bulbs, paint correction and PPF film protection. Total upgrades totalled more than $CAD 9,000. The original parts were retained and can easily be re-installed.
