The Honda Mobilio is a compact 'Multi-Wagon' based on the Honda Global Small Platform, which also underpins the Fit (Jazz in Europe), Airwave, City, Freed and HRV. These vehicles can be FWD or AWD and are powered by Honda's L-Series engine. First Generation Mobilio was produced from 2001 - 2008 and was sold exclusively in Japan. It was replaced by the Freed in 2009. The second generation Mobilo came out in 2013.
The Mobilio Spike variant came out in 2002 and was face-lifted in 2006. It features new front end treatment, and a thicker 'C' Pillar with built in interior cabinets. The Spike was marketed to younger, active people - much like the larger Element. The Spike is powered by a 1.5L VTEC version of the 'L' series engine putting out 109hp, coupled to a CVT transmission with three shift profiles and a manual mode with 7 simulated speeds and paddle shift. Consumption is rated at less than 6L/100km.
The placement of the fuel tank beneath the drivers seat keeps it out of the way in the event of a collision, and provides for a completely flat floor in the rear passenger and cargo area. The Spike features Honda's versatile 'Ultra Cargo' system of reclining and folding seats offering numerous configurations and the ultimate in flexibility.
Translation from above: Mobilio Spike's Ultra Cargo that even has a sense of playfulness. A variety of arrangments can be easily and flexibly made according to the play scene. Moreover, the size of the cargo compartment base is at the top level of the class, whether it is in the rear seat storage or in use. It's also good to load a lot of play equipment and go out with your lover [not a lot of private space in Japan! - LR).
It is also good to be casual, free, and to put your own attentiuon to detil ain ingenuity as a space like a garage. The more you use the Mobilio Spike's Ultra Cargo, the more you can feel it convenience. A space for play.
Though it is a small vehicle, it makes use of Honda's G-CON (G-force Control) technology, for enhanced crash safety. The vehicle body is designed to offer protection to occupants in a 55 km/h full-frontal collision, a 64 km/h front offset collision, 55 km/h side collision and a 50 km/h rear collision.
This Mobilo Spike, #1206434, is an 'Auction Grade 4' vehicle which is a top rating for a vehicle with this year and mileage. Only some light scratching and a few 'A1' marks (the smallest grade) are noted on the very thorough Japanese auction report.
Equipment includes Bluetooth, Navigation, TV (Japan), Keyless entry and a powered sliding door.
This vehicle was purchased in Japan, and will be shipped on a ROLO vessel and will arrive at the Port in New Westminster, BC in early 2025. It will then get thoroughly road tested, serviced and gone through the Alberta inspection and licensing process.
Because the mechanical components are shared with the Honda Fit that was sold in North America, spare parts are readily available, and servicing will be familiar to any Honda Mechanic. Utility and fuel economy are excellent with this vehicle. Perhaps it will wind up with a climber or biker who needs the space and utility but wants an efficient vehicle for travelling to the mountains... We'll see!
