About the Aston Martin V8 Vantage:
The V8 Vantage was part of a new family of 'modern' V8 and V12 Aston Martins created on the VH (Vertical-Horizontal) aluminum platform. Bonded and riveted together to achieve great torsional rigidity, this platform underpinned the new family of Astons including the DB9 (2004), the V8 Vantage (2005) and DBS (2008) and Rapide (2009).
The V8 Vantage featured a 4.3 and later 4.7 litre 4-cam V8 engines with dry-sump lubrication mated to a rear transaxle. The engine and gearbox were bridged by a cast aluminum torque tube housing a carbon fibre driveshaft. Gearbox choices were a conventional 6 speed manual and a single-clutch automated version called the Sportshift. The 'Sportshift 2', which was introduced in 2011, has seven speeds to the 6 speeds of the first version, and revised software which is viewed as a major improvement.
The Vantage project was led by CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez, who came to Aston Martin from Porsche after developing the 993 version of the 911. It was a somewhat acrimonious parting, and Dr. Bez was determined to make the Vantage competitive with the iconic Porsche. Dr. Bez was an amateur racing driver and drove N24 versions of the V8 Vantage in the Nurburgring 24hours and other endurance races. Racing versions of both the V8 Vantage (N24,GT4, GTE) and the DB9 (DBR9) were competitive racing cars in their respective classes. The DBR9 won the GT1 class in Le Mans for 2007 and 2008.
About this Aston Martin:
This V8 Vantage Sportshift-2 was purchased from Distinctive Collection (Aston Martin Calgary) by the current owner, and has stayed garaged in Calgary its entire life. Servicing was done by the dealer while it was under warranty, and subsequently at Reigel Tuning - an independent European service facility. The car was mainly used to take the owner to and from the golf course, which explains the low mileage of 34,600km in ten years of ownership. The car has had no insurance claims, accidents or paintwork. PPF film has been applied to the front clip including the headlights.
The crystal 'Emotion Control Unit' key is still in its original packaging as is the valet key. All the original accessories including the umbrella are still with the car and unused. A binder with all the maintenance records is included.
The car was last serviced in the fall of 2023 - less than 1,000km ago. The clutch shows no signs of needing replacement. The car has no immediate servicing needs, though the rear tires are getting down close to the wear bars. Front brakes are at about 50% and the rears are at about 75%.
Cosmetically and mechanically the car can not be reasonably faulted. There are no visible defects anywhere on the car or in the interior. The underside of the car looks as clean as the top side. For all intent and purposes, this is about as good a used V8 Vantage as anybody could hope to find. It is for sale in Calgary for roughly half of its cost when new, and much less than half of its replacement cost.
Considering its all-aluminum construction, high-end finishes throughout and dry-sumped V8 engine, the V8 Vantage is something of a sports car bargain.
