The original Mini was produced from 1959 t0 1990, and is considered a British Icon. This distinctive two-door car was designed for BMC by Sir Alec Issigonis. Only 10 feet long, with a transverse engine and gearbox, the original car was a marvel of packaging. The Hydro elastic suspension was praised for its handling and comfort despite running only 10" wheels. The Mini was a true 'classless' vehicle that provided basic transportation but was also owned by celebrities such as Peter Sellers and the Beatles.

BMW acquired Mini in 1994 with Land Rover, and an entirely new Mini was introduced in 2001. The second generation was introduced in 2006 on a new platform with many stylistic and engineering changes. The third generation was introduced in 2014 and grew in size to increase the passenger and luggage capacity. The Mini range grew to include 3 and 5 door versions, a Cabriolet (2005), Countryman crossover (2011), Coupe (2012) , Roadster (2012) and the Paceman (2013) followed.

BMW positioned the Mini as a premium small car offering many colour/trim/customization options, high quality interior materials, and a sporty chassis that was engaging to drive.
