About the Tesla Model S

The Tesla model S was Tesla's second car after the two seat Roadster. Introduced in 2012, the Model S set the template for the modern electric vehicle and was the world's best selling EV. The Model S is still in production, though the more affordable Model 3/Y now account for the vast majority of Tesla's 1.8M annual sales. The Model S was the first volume production vehicle to feature 'over-the-air' software updates as well as the first 'Autopilot' autonomous driving feature.

The Model S was styled by Franz von Holzhausen who has been Tesla's chief designer for all the current Tesla product line up. Constructed mostly of Aluminum, the Model S has been sold with single and dual motors, and various battery capacities from 60kWh to 100kWh. The Model S has been given several 're-freshes' with detail changes to the styling and mechanical updates over the years.

For 2016, the Model S received revised front-end styling, an enhanced cabin air filtration system, adaptive headlights and Autopilot semi-autonomous driving technology.

About This Model S 60D

This particular Model S is the dual motor, AWD version with a battery pack rated at 60kW. It has the identical battery to the 75D (75kWh) but it has been software limited to 60kW. For a fee, Tesla can upgrade the battery to make all 75kWh available which would increase the real world range from about 300km to 375km. Transport Canada rate the 60D at 352km and the 75D at 417 respectively.

This Tesla was purchased from Tesla in Vancouver and has been with the single Calgary Owner since new. The CARFAX is clean apart from an indication of an accident in Sept 2019, with a $0 estimate. A dent to the driver's side front door was repaired with paintless dent removal. The vehicle had a new set of tires installed in 2021, and more recently had the pyro fuse upgraded (April 2024-21,101km). The vehicle has only been summer driven, and has been kept in a climate controlled garage with a SOC between 50% and 90%. The vehicle still shows 300+ km of range with 90% battery SOC, indicating little to no degradation.

With little over 20,000km this Tesla presents as nearly new. There is some curb rash on 3 of 4 alloy rims, a small chip (but no crack) on the lower windscreen, a rock chip and small dent on the bonnet, a scrape to the lower front bumper cover on the passenger side and only traces of scuffing on a few interior pieces - all photographed. One of the 4 plastic covers for the roof rack mounts is missing.

The car has a service history from Tesla Calgary going back to Jan 2020. There are no alerts or messages from the car saying anything is amiss or that any service work is necessary. The air suspension functions properly and the car does not sag, even if left for extended periods.

In summary, this is about as good a pre-owned Tesla as one is likely to find, with extremely low mileage and in near-new condition. Early production Tesla Model S are now well over 10 years old, and many examples have covered more than a half-million km, proving the inherent reliability of the EV, and the durability of the battery pack. This one has barely been used.
