About Audi Sport
Audi Sport is a wholly owned subsidiary of the VW Group and produces a limited number of ultra high performance Audi variants that are designed, tested and built in Neckarsulm, near Stuttgart, on the former NSU production facility.
VW acquired NSU in 1969 when they merged it with Auto Union creating NSU Auto Union which ultimately became Audi. The company was founded in 1983 as Quattro GmbH and the name was changed to Audi Sport in 2016.
In the 1970's and 1980's Audi was led by Ferdinand Piech who, after a stint at Porsche working with Hans Mezger to develop the Porsche 911 engine and later the 917 Le Mans race winner, went to Audi and created a car for the World Rally Championship which became the Audi Quattro.
Close family ties with Porsche - Piech was Ferdiand Porsche's grandson - resulted in a collaboration to produce the first Audi Sport car in the mid 1990's - the RS2 - on the Porsche assembly line that once built the Porsche 959 and later the Mercedes-Benz 500E.
Since then, subsequent Audi Sport RS models have been produced in Neckarsulm. The plant has generally only produced one model at a time, in limited numbers, generally at the end of that model's production lifecycle.
Audi Sport also fully developed and produced the mid-engine R8 supercar.
The Audi RS6 Avant
The current Audi RS6 is the high performance version of the Audi A6, and available only as a wagon, which Audi calls an Avant. It is mechanically identical to the RS7 which Audi calls a 'Sportback'. The car is powered by a breathed-on version of the 'hot V' 4.0 V8, versions of which are also under the hood of the Bentley Continental, Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Panamera and Cayenne Turbos. In this installation it produces 591hp and 590 lb/ft of torque accelerating the car from 0-100km in less than 3.5sec using launch control. An 8 Speed Automatic gearbox with paddle shifters, Quattro AWD (of course), air suspension, and optional rear wheel steering complete the mechanical package. This 'C8' version of the RS6 (2019 -) also features 48V mild hybrid system which can recoup up to 12kW on deceleration to supply electrical power to accessories. It also features cylinder deactivation on part throttle. There are 'RS1' and 'RS2' modes selectable on the steering wheel, which configure engine and chassis settings as well as change the 'virtual cockpit' graphic interface.
About this Audi RS6
This Audi was purchased from Pfaff Audi in Toronto and was shipped to BC where it lived in Invermere. It was optioned with the Dynamic Package which includes the limited slip differential, rear wheel steering and active steering, and raises the top speed from 250kph to 280kph. Other options including the $5,500 Bang & Olufsen Sound System are listed below on the Bill of Sale.
When new the Audi had some modifications done at respected Calgary tuning shops Turnerworks and Mobile Solution Calgary. Tunerworks replaced the stock exhaust mid-pipe that was downstream from the Catalytic Converters and 02 sensors and connected to the rear silencers. The pipe with resonators was substituted for a 'Redstar' resonator delete and 'H' pipe. This gives a slightly deeper exhaust note, but does not affect the emissions or engine managment system of the vehicle. The stock pipe was retained and goes with the vehicle. Custom finished 22" Vossen forged wheels cary the OEM summer rubber, while the OEM wheels are fitted with Pirelli P Zero winter tires.
At Mobile Solutions Calgary (see video above) the car was fitted with a custom installed 'Stinger' radar detector and jammer system as well as an upgrade to the stock amplifier and sub-woofer - the original units being swapped out for a 1,800w DSP Helix V12 Amplifer and 8" subwoofer. A bespoke enclosure was made in one of the rear side compartments to house the subwoofer. The entire car was wrapped in Matte Xpel 'Stealth' PPF. See invoices below.
This one-owner Audi has travelled just under 31,000km from new and has had no accidents or insurance claims. Servicing is completely up to date and the car has just been to the dealer and has had all recalls completed. The CARFAX is clean, showing only the outstanding recalls which have been completed and documented in the invoices below.
This Audi RS6 Avant looks spectacular with its Matte finish and 22" wheels. It is blisteringly fast, yet has a comfortable ride and the practicality you expect of a large station wagon. It is a true 'do everything' vehicle. The current owner spent over $190,000 on this vehicle getting it the way he wanted it. New Audi RS6 Avants are available new, but only in 'Performance' spec which adds $25,000 to the purchase price with only a 3ohp hp increase. Duplicating this vehicle today would cost well over $200,000. This vehicle is available, fully serviced and detailed, at the Lugnutz (www.lugnutz.ca) facility in Calgary.
