About the V12 Jaguar E-Type

1971 was the first year of the famous Jaguar V12 engine which was planned for the XJ sedans but was delayed and made its debut in the E-Type. This engine was in production into the mid-1990's, and racing-tuned versions had won the British and Australian Touring Car Championships and the Le Mans 24 hour race, twice.

The 5,340cc 60 degree V12 all-aluminium powerplant featured single over head cams per bank, the advanced Lucas 'Opus' ignition system taken from the Formula One racing program, twin coils, and 4 Zenith-Stromberg carburettors (for North America). Output was 272 hp and 304 lb/ft torque.

The Series 3 E-Type, came in two body styles both on the same wheel base; there was a 2+2 Coupe and a convertible which Jaguar called the OTS, or open two seater. All came with the new V12 engine, but buyers could choose betweeen the 4 Speed Manual or 3 Speed Borg Warner Automatic.

The Series 3 E Type was produced from 1971 to 1974, with a few remaining vehicles being sold in the 1975 model year. There were 5,471 LHD Series 3 E-Type FHC produced as well as 6,250 OTS in LHD. There were 1,735 RHD OTS and 1,827 RHD Fixed Head Coupes produced for the home market. There were about 70,000 Jaguar E-Types produced of all years and bodystyles.

About this E-Type

This E-Type is one of 2,595 1971 LHD 2+2 Fixed Head Coupes produced, and perhaps one of few hundred that were sold new into Canada.

This Jaguar is a one-owner car purchased by a Yorkton, Sask resident. It is un-modified, and shows 14,541 miles on the odometer. It is finished in Signal Red with wire wheels, a Black Leather interior and air conditioning.

The car is unmodified and retains most of its original Signal Red paint. There is evidence of repair to the front LHS corner of the bonnet and the application of some rust paint along the lower sills. Silver paint has been applied to the exhaust and suspension.

The interior has been very well preserved. The leather is not dry-cracked and the carpets and interior panels are in good condition. There is no odour from mice.

The car has recently come out of long term storage and will need to be fully recommissioned for road use.

In summary, this is an exceptionally well preserved E-Type Jaguar with the exotic and powerful V12 engine. This will make an extremely gratifying project for the Jaguar enthusiast who wants to bring this cat back to life.
